In Canada, Family Law is the area of the legal system concerned with family matters, including family relationships, marriage (formation) and divorce (dissolution). Each province and territory in Canada is responsible for the solemnization of marriage. Marriage may be between two people of opposite sexes or between a same-sex couple, depending on the province of marriage. Family Law in each province also defines the rules for co-habitation. Marriage and co-habitation can be ended through an annulment, a separation or a divorce and may involve a division of property. Other areas of Family Law include Child Custody, Child Support and Spousal Support.
